Older People and Musculoskeletal Conditions

Professor Belinda Beck, tadalafil Griffith Health Institute’s Centre for Musculoskeletal Research, store is calling for women over the age of 60 years to take part in a study to determine if high load resistance training is a safe and effective strategy for improving bone and muscle strength

“Unfortunately, one in three women will experience a fracture after the age of 60 as a result of a gradual decline in bone health, some of which may be fatal or cause significant loss of independence,” Associate Professor Beck said.

With the rate of osteoporotic fractures at a high, we need to act now. In 2013 almost 400 fractures a day were reported in Australia and this number is estimated to increase, Nurses in Aged Care facilities need to be educated around the care and management of Musculoskeletal conditions.

ACLS have a number of courses specific to this topic, such as CPD04: Musculoskeletal conditions Older people, which informs nurses about: Life impact and burden, Qualitative and observational studies, ?Quality care and management, Treatment and management goals, Osteoarthritis, Treatment and management goals, Rheumatoid arthritis, Treatment and management, Osteoporosis, Prevention, treatment and management, ?Web resources and references for these conditions.
